The mission of the library media program of the Portland Public Schools is to promote literacy and to ensure that students become effective users of ideas and information, equipped with the necessary skills and desire to become lifelong learners.

We want students to enjoy learning and to love books and reading. The library offers a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction titles in a full range of reading levels. We also strive to provide staff with resources they need in their teaching. Cliff Island School has access to materials from other libraries within the school district, enabling staff and students to benefit from resources not available within the Cliff Island School Library.

The library media specialist visits the school several times each year to promote reading and to provide instruction in information skills.
