Welcome to East End Community School Library            East End School Library Resources

Welcome to the Adams Elementary School Library. The Adams school community is fortunate to have both the Munjoy Branch of the Portland Public Library and our school library. You will find the school library right next to the art/music room.

The library is the place to explore the world of children's books and is a resource for finding information both within its walls and beyond. Students and staff enjoy books, magazines, videotapes, CDs and online databases. We work closely with students and staff to share the love of reading and the joy of satisfying a curious mind. Explore your library through the website and in person!

All students and staff are encouraged to use the library as often and whenever needed for pleasure reading, informational needs and resources to support classroom reading. Parents are also welcoome to visit the library and may borrow materials from the general collection.

Students in grades K-2 have weekly visits to the library for story time, book borrowing and library skills. Third, fourth and fifth graders use the library individually, in small groups or as a whole class for book borrowing, library/research skills classes and for research. Classes are often collaborations between the teacher and the librarian and relate to what is being studied in the classroom.

Student circulation varies according to grade level. There are no fines for late returns but students are required to return overdue materials before borrowing additional items.

"The mission of the library media program of the Portland Public Schools is to promote literacy and to ensure that students are effective users of ideas and information, equipped with the necessary skills and desire to become lifelong learners."
