The mission of the library media program of the Portland Public Schools is to promote literacy and to ensure that students become effective users of ideas and information, equipped with the necessary skills and desire to become lifelong learners.
We want students to enjoy learning and to love books and reading. We strive to provide staff with resources they need in their teaching. We encourage parents and other members of the school community to use Lyseth's library.
Students from all grades are invited to use Lyseth's library independently, as often as needed. K-2 classes also visit the library/media center on a bi-weekly basis in order to learn about library resources, share stories and borrow materials. Upper-grade classes visit the library frequently for booktalks, research instruction and a variety of other activities.

Student circulation varies according to grade level. There are no fines for late returns but students are required to return overdue materials before borrowing additional items.
The library's professional resources are used extensively by Lyseth staff members. Parents may borrow materials from the general collection or the special Parents' shelf. The loan period is two weeks.
The library is open one morning each week during summer vacation. Please call the school office for the current schedule.
