Peaks - Welcome
Welcome to Peaks Island School Library            Peaks Island School Library Resources

The mission of the library media program of the Portland Public Schools is to promote literacy and to ensure that students become effective users of ideas and information, equipped with the necessary skills and desire to become lifelong learners.

We want students to enjoy learning and to love books and reading. We strive to provide staff with resources they need in their teaching. We encourage parents and other members of the school community to use the Peaks Island School library.

The library boasts a collection of 3600 books, offering a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction titles in a full range of reading levels. Students visit the library on a weekly basis in order to learn about library resources, share stories and borrow books. Student circulation varies according to grade level. There are no fines for late returns but students are required to return overdue materials before borrowing additional items.

The library media specialist visits the library once or twice each month to coordinate the program, which is primarily carried out by the education technician.
