Common Questions about the Many Rivers Program

Is Many Rivers a private school, a magnet school or a school within a school?
No.  Many Rivers is a program within the Portland Public Schools that is well integrated within the Hall School. 

Are the standards and outcomes for Many Rivers the same as for other Portland School students?
Yes. 

Do Many Rivers students get the same support services as other students at Hall?
Yes.  The same support services are available for all elementary students within the Portland Public Schools.

Today how is Many Rivers different from other programs currently in Portland's elementary schools?
Today the differences include:
a) consecutive primary and intermediate settings
b) the degree of possibilities for parental involvement

Are there other multiage classrooms in Portland?
Yes.  Typically the multiage settings are for two years.

Is looping with the same teacher a common practice in other Portland primary classes?
Yes.  Looping is a common practice within many of Portland's primary classes.

Is Theoretical Math being piloted at any other school sites?

How does the  Many Rivers program fit within the Hall School Community?
Hall is a richly diverse, active school community.  Children in the Many Rivers Program and their families are part of this vibrant school community.

More than 18 languages are spoken at Hall.  Hall has school community activities for all students which include family chorus, visiting authors, an art club, French club, steel drums, etc.
